Here is that EGP 30,000 worked out by hand. Social insurance is 11% of your pay, but only up to the 2026 ceiling of EGP 16,700, so you pay EGP 1,837 a month, or EGP 22,044 a year. Your year's pay of EGP 360,000, less that insurance and the EGP 20,000 personal exemption, leaves EGP 317,956, which the law rounds down to EGP 317,950. The first EGP 40,000 is tax free, the next 15,000 pays 10%, the next 15,000 pays 15%, the next 130,000 pays 20% and the last 117,950 pays 22.5%. That's EGP 56,288.75 for the year, or EGP 4,690.73 a month. Take off EGP 15 for the Martyrs fund and EGP 23,457.27 is left.

What comes off an Egyptian payslip?

Three things come off every private sector payslip in this sum. Social insurance (at-ta'minat al-ijtima'iya) is 11% of your insured wage, between EGP 2,700 and EGP 16,700 a month, so the most you pay is EGP 1,837. Salary tax, which you may know as kasb al-amal (ضريبة كسب العمل), is worked out on your year's income, then split into months. The Martyrs fund is 0.05% of your gross, which is 5 pounds for each 10,000, and it comes off after tax.

The social insurance comes off before tax. So does the personal exemption of EGP 20,000 a year. The Martyrs fund doesn't reduce your tax.

Why can a small raise cut my take-home pay?

Because of how Article 8 of the tax law works. Once your annual net income passes EGP 600,000, you lose the tax-free EGP 40,000 band, and more bands go at 700,000, 800,000, 900,000 and 1,200,000. Your whole income moves to a harder table, not only the part above the limit.

On gross pay of EGP 53,500 a month you take home EGP 41,241.46. On EGP 53,510 you take home EGP 40,915.61, which is EGP 325.85 less for 10 more pounds. Pay has to reach about EGP 53,950 before you're back where you were. If you're offered a raise near that point, type both figures in the calculator first.

What do the two tick boxes change?

Comprehensive health insurance is 1% of your whole pay with no ceiling. It only starts once the system reaches your governorate, and it goes by your permanent home, not by where you happen to work. It comes off before tax. On EGP 30,000 it costs EGP 300 and saves EGP 67.50 in tax, so you take home EGP 23,224.77. The authority's service list names Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Suez and Aswan. Your payslip is the surest guide. If it shows no such line, leave the box empty. We couldn't confirm whether the 1% sickness share inside the 11% still applies where this system runs, so your social insurance line there may be lower than this sum shows.

The second box is for workers with a disability, or who care for someone with one, on an integrated services card. Your personal exemption rises by half to EGP 30,000 a year, so EGP 30,000 a month takes home EGP 23,644.77.

Why does my payslip show a different number?

Your employer's payroll works on your cumulative pay by days worked, on a 360 day year, then takes off tax already charged. So a bonus, a raise or a part month changes the tax in the months around it. Steady pay for the whole year comes out the same as this sum.

  • Overtime, bonuses, commission and profit share are taxed, and they aren't in this sum. Our overtime tool works out the gross amount.
  • Some allowances, such as transport given in place of a benefit in kind, don't count for social insurance, so your insurance line may be lower than 11% of gross.
  • Life, health and pension premiums and private fund contributions can come off before tax, up to 15% of net income or EGP 10,000 a year, whichever is less.
  • The disability fund takes 3, 5 or 10 pounds a month by job grade, and a union may take dues. We leave these out.
  • If this is your second job, the employer takes a flat 10% and tells your main employer, who settles the tax.

Questions people ask

Did the tax-free amount rise to EGP 60,000 in 2026?

We found no such law. The 60,000 you see quoted online is the EGP 40,000 zero band plus the EGP 20,000 personal exemption, both from Law 7 of 2024. The tax authority's list of laws, checked on 2 November 2026, shows nothing newer that changes them. Law 151 of 2026 amends the income tax law, but not those articles.

How much tax do I pay on the minimum wage?

On the private sector minimum of EGP 7,000, the sum gives EGP 123 salary tax, EGP 770 social insurance and EGP 3.50 for the Martyrs fund, leaving EGP 6,103.50.

At what salary do I start paying tax?

About EGP 5,620 gross a month. At that point, your year's pay less insurance and the personal exemption reaches the EGP 40,000 tax-free band. On EGP 5,000 you pay no salary tax and take home EGP 4,447.50.

Does this work for government employees?

It's built for private sector payslips. State pay carries other items, such as incentives and special raises, so your payslip may differ even though the tax bands are the same.

Is my salary sent anywhere?

No. The sum runs in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent.
