Compare two job offers in Egypt: net pay, insurance, transport and medical

A higher gross doesn't always win. EGP 25,000 with a EGP 150 daily commute leaves EGP 16,284.77 a month, while EGP 23,000 with a free staff bus leaves EGP 18,035.77.

Offer A pays EGP 25,000, which is EGP 19,584.77 after tax and insurance. You'd spend EGP 150 a day for 22 days getting there, so EGP 3,300 a month, and EGP 16,284.77 is left. Offer B pays EGP 23,000, which is EGP 18,035.77 after tax and insurance, and the firm's bus is free. It's EGP 1,751 a month better, or EGP 21,012 a year, even with EGP 2,000 less on paper.

What goes in each box?

Salary is the gross monthly figure. Cash allowances go in their own box, and the tool taxes them as pay. That's the safe way to count them, because the tax form treats allowances as taxable income. Daily commute and days a month give you the travel bill. If the firm gives you a bus, leave them at zero.

Other monthly costs are for what one job makes you pay and the other doesn't: a move, childcare, your own lunch on a long shift.

What should I ask before I trust a figure?

We read 2,320 adverts on 1 November 2026, and these gaps keep coming up.

  • Gross or net. Some adverts give net pay, others just give a number. Ask.
  • Up to. 36 adverts give an up to yearly figure. Ask what you're guaranteed, and how the rest is earned.
  • KPIs. One advert says up to EGP 20,800 including 15% KPIs. Ask how much is fixed.
  • Medical cover. More than 500 adverts name medical or health insurance. A figure such as up to EGP 200,000 a year is the cover limit, not your pay. Ask who it includes.
  • Social insurance. 119 adverts name it. By law your employer must insure your real wage, so ask what your record will show.

Before you resign from your current job

Get the new offer in writing first. An open-ended contract means 3 months' written notice under Article 156 of Labour Law 14 of 2025, and it can't be cut by agreement, though your employer may release you from all or part of it. A resignation also needs certifying at the labour authority under Article 167. So your new start date may be further off than you think.

A new employer can put you on probation of at most 3 months, and only once with the same employer (Article 90).

Questions people ask

Does this count the medical cover or the staff bus as money?

Only through what you type. Leave the commute at zero for a free bus. Medical cover has no cash value here, so judge it yourself, using what the two employers tell you it covers.

Are the two offers taxed separately?

Yes. Each is worked out as your only job, for a full year at that pay.

What about a yearly bonus?

If it's guaranteed in the contract, divide it by 12 and add it to allowances. If it isn't guaranteed, don't count it.
