Is this job real? Free job scam check for Egypt

If anyone asks you for money to get a job, stop. Article 43 of Labour Law 14 of 2025 bans it, apart from a licensed company's admin charge of at most 1% of your wage in your first year. For anything else that looks wrong, answer these yes or no questions.

  1. Have they asked you to pay anything to get the job or the interview: a file fee, a placement fee, a training course, a uniform or a medical?
  2. Have they asked for your bank card PIN, your mobile wallet PIN or a one-time code sent to your phone?
  3. Have they sent you money and asked you to pass part of it on, or asked to use your bank account or wallet for payments?
  4. Is the work liking posts, rating products or watching videos, with earnings you can only reach after you top up an account?
  5. Is it a job abroad where you get the contract or visa only after paying, or where you can't read the contract first?
  6. Do they want your original ID, certificates or military papers kept with them before you've signed anything?
  7. Do they refuse to put the job, the pay and the start date in writing?
  8. Did they offer you the job with no interview, no test and no question about your experience?
  9. Is it all on WhatsApp, Telegram or a Facebook page, with no company email and no office you can check?
  10. Does the message come from a free email address, or a web address close to a company's name but not quite the same?
  11. Is the pay far above other adverts for the same work, with no experience asked for?
  12. Are they pushing you to decide today, or saying your place goes to someone else within hours?

0 of 12 answered. Your result shows when you've answered them all. Nobody should pay for a job.

This is a checklist to help you think. It can't prove a job is real or fake.

Here's a sum to keep in mind. On a EGP 10,000 monthly wage, a licensed placement company may take at most 1% of your wage for the first year, as admin costs. That's EGP 100 of a month's pay, or EGP 1,200 if it's counted on the full year, and it can only come from a licensed company. If someone wants thousands of pounds up front, for a file, a course or a visa, that isn't the law. No test like this one can promise a job is real. It shows you what to check, and it never names any company.

How do I check the job itself?

Do these in order. They take ten minutes and cost nothing.

  • Find the job on the employer's own careers page. Type the address yourself, rather than following a link from a message.
  • Look at the sender's email and web address, letter by letter. A real firm's name in a free email address is a warning sign, not proof.
  • For government jobs, go to the Government Jobs Portal or the ministry's page. A competition has a notice you can read there. A screenshot in a group isn't that.
  • Jobs abroad: check the Ministry of Labour's jobs page, and ask the labour office about the agency.
  • Ask for the offer in writing: job, pay, start date. The contract must be in Arabic and name the job and the wage (Article 89).

What about agencies?

Article 40 lets licensed private employment agencies place workers. They can charge the employer. From you, they may take at most 1% of your wage, for the first year only, as admin costs, and nothing else under any name (Article 43). Ask the agency to show its licence, and ask your labour office if you're unsure.

What should I do if I've already paid?

Stop paying, even if they promise it's the last fee. Keep the messages, the receipt and the wallet or transfer number. Make a complaint on the government complaints portal, and take the papers to the nearest police station. If you shared a PIN or a code, call your bank or wallet provider first, right away.

Questions people ask

A real company really is hiring on WhatsApp. Is that a scam?

Not by itself. Some employers do give a phone or WhatsApp number in their adverts. The test is whether you can find the same job on their own site, and whether anyone asks you for money.

Is a medical test fee a scam?

Some jobs need a health certificate, such as food work. But you get that from a proper health office yourself. Paying a stranger or a recruiter for it, before any contract, is a warning sign.

Can I report a firm on your site?

Yes. Use the contact page if an advert here looks wrong and we'll check it. For money you've lost, the police and the complaints portal are the right place.
