Those figures are for a private sector job, under the tax bands of Law 7 of 2024 and the social insurance limits in force since 1 January 2026. The table below runs from the EGP 7,000 minimum wage to EGP 150,000. Every row is the same sum as our calculator, and we checked the main rows by hand. If your pay isn't here, type it in the calculator.

Estimate, not tax advice. It assumes one job, the same pay all year, the whole gross counted for social insurance, no private insurance, and no comprehensive health insurance. The 2027 social insurance limits aren't out yet.

One row, worked by hand: EGP 40,000

Social insurance is 11%, but your insured wage stops at EGP 16,700, so you pay EGP 1,837 a month, or EGP 22,044 a year. Your yearly pay is EGP 480,000. Take off the insurance and the EGP 20,000 personal exemption and you have EGP 437,956, which the law rounds down to EGP 437,950.

Now the bands. The first EGP 40,000 is free. The next 15,000 at 10% is EGP 1,500. The next 15,000 at 15% is EGP 2,250. The next 130,000 at 20% is EGP 26,000. The next 200,000 at 22.5% is EGP 45,000. The last 37,950 at 25% is EGP 9,487.50. That's EGP 84,237.50 for the year, or EGP 7,019.79 a month.

Then the Martyrs fund takes 0.05% of gross, which is EGP 20, after tax. So 40,000 less 1,837, less 7,019.79, less 20, leaves EGP 31,123.21.

Why do I keep less as my salary grows?

You keep 87.2% of a EGP 7,000 salary and 74.8% of EGP 100,000. Two things pull in opposite directions. Tax rises in steps, from 0% to 27.5%. But social insurance stops rising at EGP 16,700 of pay, so above that point it's a fixed EGP 1,837, whatever you earn.

That's why the fall isn't smooth. From EGP 15,000 to EGP 20,000, pay rises by a third, and take-home rises by EGP 3,848 out of the EGP 5,000 extra.

Why is EGP 53,510 worth less than EGP 53,500?

Look at those two rows. Ten more pounds of pay leaves you EGP 325.85 worse off each month. At EGP 53,510 gross, your annual net income passes EGP 600,000, and the law then takes away your tax-free band for the whole year's income. Pay has to reach about EGP 53,950 before you're level again. Our income tax guide lists the other points where this happens.

What if my payslip doesn't match?

A few pounds of difference is normal. The disability fund takes 3, 5 or 10 a month by job grade, and we leave it out. A bigger gap usually means one of these. Part of your pay is an allowance that doesn't count for social insurance, such as transport given in place of a benefit in kind. Or you've had a bonus, overtime or a raise this year, since payroll works on your running total. Or you started part way through the year.

Comprehensive health insurance adds 1% of your whole pay, but only where the system has started, and it goes by your permanent home. On EGP 30,000 it takes you from EGP 23,457.27 to EGP 23,224.77. Tick that box on the calculator if your payslip shows it. We couldn't confirm whether the 1% sickness share inside your 11% social insurance still applies there, so that line on your payslip may be lower than ours.

Is an offer quoted gross or net?

Ask, every time. Only 58 of our 2,320 adverts on 1 November 2026 state any pay, and some of those say net. A EGP 22,000 gross offer takes home EGP 17,261.27, and that's nearly EGP 4,740 less than EGP 22,000 net. When you've got a net target, the salary to ask for tool gives you the gross to say.
